"The Dark Knight Rises" Cast Spotted in Paris After Tokyo & Mexico City Premieres Cancelled
After Friday's (July 20th) Paris premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" was cancelled due to the grisly shooting at the midnight showing in Aurora, Colorado, other big city openings are soon to follow.
Member of the successful film's cast including Anne Hathaway, Christian Bale and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were spotted leaving the City of Lights on Saturday afternoon (July 21) to head back to Los Angeles.
In related news, the new film was scheduled to have glamorous red carpet launches in Mexico City and Tokyo in the next week.
Those international openings are important to studios. The Los Angeles Times reported on July 19th that "it's not uncommon for 70 percent or more of a popular film's worldwide ticket sales to come from overseas."
However, Warner Brothers released a statement today (July 21st) announcing that "Due to the tragic events in Aurora, Colorado, Warner Bros. Pictures has cancelled the previously scheduled personal appearances by the cast and filmmakers in Mexico and Japan on behalf of The Dark Knight Rises. However, in an effort not to disappoint the dedicated fans of the film, we will proceed with our previously scheduled special screenings for invited guests and promotional winners."
