Tragedy Strikes SXSW Festival with Fatal Car Crash
It’s one of the hottest events of the year for the music industry, but sadly the SXSW Festival suffered a deadly blow when a drunk driver killed two attendees early this morning (March 13).
According to a report, the two victims were riding on a moped around 12:30 am when they were struck by the car after the driver sped away from cops to avoid being arrested.
Additionally, Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo noted that five people were critically injured and 18 others suffered minor issues.
He told press, "We had a large crowd. I just thank God that a lot of the folks had already been pushed on the sidewalk or this could have been a lot worse."
"We do these events very well, but you cannot stop a person who rather than face drunk driving charges decides to speed at a high rate of speed, go around a uniformed officer forcing him to run out of the way, then at a high rate of speed show total disregard for the sanctity of human life.”
