She always gives 100% to her movie roles, and Meryl Streep looked intense as she filmed “Suffragette” in London, England on Tuesday (March 25).

Clad in period-appropriate garb, the “Iron Lady” actress depicted British suffragette movement leader Emmeline Pankhurst while giving a speech perched atop a balcony.

Describing her plight for women’s rights, Ms. Pankhurst penned a book titled “My Own Story” in which she explained her public addresses- “These were all publicly announced, and each time the police, mingling with crowds, made strenuous efforts to arrest me. By strategy, and through the valiant efforts of the bodyguard, I was able each time to make my speech and afterwards to escape from the house. All of these occasions were marked by fierce opposition from the police and splendid courage and resistance on the part of the women.”

Streep told press, “I am as fascinated by Emmeline Pankhurst as I was by Margaret Thatcher. These are women who made a difference, whatever you thought of them.”
