Robin Thicke Abruptly Pulls Out of Juno Awards Citing "Mandatory Vocal Rest"
It's been a rough few months for Robin Thicke and on Sunday (March 30), he abruptly cancelled his performance at that evening's Juno Awards.
Though the statement cites mandatory vocal rest and notes that the illness caused him to postpone concerts on Friday and Saturday night as well, there was pressure for the "Blurred Lines" singer to pull out.
A Change.org petition urged the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences to axe him, gaining over 1,500 signatures.
According to the petition, "The Canadian JUNO Music Awards are a celebration of Canada’s best and brightest musicians and Thicke is not one of them. Thicke’s music is in direct contradiction to Canadian values of equality and human rights. Tell the JUNO Awards not to reward rape culture, but instead to take action against it by removing Robin Thicke from all nominations and cancelling his scheduled performance at the award show. Let the JUNOs and Robin Thicke know that there is a clear line when it comes to respect for women, and they’re on the wrong side of it.”
