After causing a fire storm with her new music video “Hello Kitty,” Avril Lavigne responded to the critics via Twitter on Wednesday (April 23).

As previously reported by GossipCenter, the Canadian singer’s clip for the tune caused criticism from media and fans alike due to its portrayal of Japanese culture.

Avril fired back and said, "RACIST??? LOLOLOL!!! I love Japanese culture and I spend half of my time in Japan. I flew toTokyo to shoot this video… …specifically for my Japanese fans, WITH my Japanese label, Japanese choreographers AND a Japanese director IN Japan."

The music video shows Avril dancing with a bevy of Asian backup dancers and singing, "K-k-k-kawaii/Hello Kitty, hello Kitty/Hello Kitty, you're so pretty/Hello Kitty, hello Kitty/Hello Kitty, you're so silly.”
