It was nearly one year ago when GossipCenter reported on the tragic death of "The Bachelor's" Gia Allemand's death. Despite plenty of negative press regarding her mental state, the late star's suicide brings awareness to the pertinent issue and how to prevent it.

Gia suffered from a disorder called PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder), which the Mayo Clinic defines as “a severe, sometimes disabling extension of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) that causes extreme mood shifts that can disrupt work and damage relationships.”

Her disorder brought plenty of trauma throughout her life and there were previous signs of life-threatening distress years before her death. In 2010, Gia was hospitalized for attempting suicide. Gia’s mother, Donna Coltrinari-Micheletti said, “I knew Gia was crying out for help. She didn’t want to die, she just wanted the pain to go away”.

Check out more details about Gia's mother's goal to bring awareness to mental issues and suicide in her exclusive interview with exclusive interview with Extreme Fitness.
