“Les Miserables” Cast Team Up for The Hollywood Reporter
They’ve been working overtime to promote their new flick, and the cast of “Les Miserables” is featured in The Hollywood Reporter.
Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Russell Crowe, and Eddie Redmayne all look fabulous in the new images from their December 1st photo shoot at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City.
“Les Miserables” director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) noted that while the current buzz for the film is reassuring, getting the project off the ground wasn’t so simple.
He explained, “It was a big risk. Hopefully, it seems like less of a risk now. I was wrestling with the question, Do musicals seem a little bit fake because people are singing? Or is it because they’re lip syncing? And my hunch was that the tradition of singing to playback made it slightly unreal.”
Hathaway, who plays Fantine, also shared the stress of the project. “There was resistance because I was between their ideal ages for the parts — maybe not mature enough for Fantine but past the point where I could believably play Cosette [Fantine’s daughter, later embodied by Seyfried]. And I did what I do when I really want a role: I got fiery and told my agent, ‘Just get me in the room.’ ”
“Les Miserables” is slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day.
