Quvenzhane Wallis: The New Annie
Ready for next big role, Quvenzhane Wallis has been tapped to play the lead role in a remake of the film “Annie.”
The young actress was nominated for an Academy Award this year for her performance in “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”
Columbia Pictures' production head Hannah Minghella said in a statement on Sunday (February 24), “With the recent Academy Award nomination and critical acclaim, Quvenzhane Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star.”
The remake is being produced by Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith and Jay-Z. It is expected to arrive in theaters in time for the 2014 holiday season.
