Naomi Watts Talks “Diana” Drama
In what may be the defining role of her career, Naomi Watts plays Princess Diana in the forthcoming film project “Diana.”
The “King Kong” actress told press that depicting the late Royal’s relationship with Dr. Hasnat Khan was tricky, but in the end everything came off wonderfully.
Watts explained, “They’re from different cultures — and she was prepared to marry him, and move to Pakistan with him. We had to explore all of that.”
Meanwhile, Naomi also noted that not everyone has been thrilled with her decision to take the gig. “Some people have said to me, ‘Why would you do that? You’re not the right look! You don’t have the nose! You don’t have the walk, or talk; or the height.’ It was nerve-racking going into it — and now I’m reaching the second nervous state.”
And getting Diana’s voice just right was quite a challenge. “Everyone remembered it so well, because she did sort of change that posh-sounding voice. It wasn’t the stiff upper lip we were used to. She made her voice sound more modern; more attractive.”
