Friends Suspect Lee Thompson Young Was Depressed, Obsessed with Religion
Although fans were shocked with his sudden passing on Monday (August 19), there was a few warning signs that things weren't going well for Lee Thompson Young.
Sources close to the 29-year-old admitted depression and his new found religion may have been the reasons behind his suicide.
"[He] didn't drink or party," a source revealed. "He was the opposite. Lee loved to travel and was always the first to tell everyone to take a breath and enjoy the beauty of life."
Those close to the "Famous Jett Jackson" star started noticing changes after he began practicing Yorùbá, an Africa-based religion that praises sayings including "Iku ya j'esin" meaning "Death is preferable to ignominy."
Chief Priest of Osogbo Araba Ifayemi Osundagbonu who spoke to the National Mirror earlier this year, stated, "[The religion does] not support suicide. Their belief is that if somebody commits suicide, they will be punished in the hereafter."
"[Lee] took [his religion] to the next level and started wearing white all of the time," another source commented. "This religion was everything to him."
The star's landlord discovered Mr. Young's body after his "Rizzoli & Isles" coworkers called and asked them to investigate his home after he didn't show up to the set.
